Top Hat

"All that you need is belief in order for something to be special. There is no secret ingredient. "-Kung Fu Panda

Yes, we're a few days late, but at least the blog has not been forgotten.  Every person is special in their own way (just like everyone else). It's important to remember this when working utilizing different talents.  Whether you win over a perspective client, or audition for a role, each person is unique.  It's easy to forget this and think there is something wrong with us indiviually when we fail, or are passed over.

Zig Ziglar has an excellent quote for rejection.  Sometimes you're selling khakis and the buyer is looking for jeans instead. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your khakis. It's just not what that person wanted. Hats off to anyone brave enough to be who they are,  whether a "sale" occurs or not.

"It's just business. Its not personal,  Sonny!"- The Godfather

Have a great week!

Magic Wand

Long overdue is the need for change. This company does not like change, but recognizes its importance.  Blog will be updated once a week from now on.

Magic Act Films recognizes the loss of illusion and hence wonder for audiences. As a business, it's still discovering it's identity. For now, we are a family friendly Sci Fi/, Fantasy, and Comedy Feature and Short Films for faith based community production company.

Working on a logo of the company shortened to M.A.F.  it's also the initials of the founders father, for whom none of which would be possible without his support.

Alakazaam!

Another semester has begun, and I have been negligent in updating the blog.  There will be plenty of projects to work on to expand our talents as students to new heights.  I can't promise miracles, but I'll try to stay updated.  Let's just say I'm glad that the proposal I made last night for a new script wasn't due today.  It was not one of my best ideas, and I wasn't looking forward to hearing others vet it.

In other news, people in Dallas rock.  Not once, but twice, desserts were provided on behalf of Valentine's Day by two different students at my film school. Nothing says love like a slice of tres leches cake, and chocolate covered strawberries.  That was a wonderful surprise today.

Do you believe in magic?  I do.  Some call it sleight of hand while others think it's something supernatural.  Disney was a big believer in it.  I'm learning more tricks of the trade as I go along.  I'm transforming myself from apprentice to professional, with the help of some skilled warlocks, and a few spells.

Love is the strongest magic in the universe, so be careful how you handle its contents.
Happy Valentines day!

Abracadabra

Apparently, I have won a number of certificates at the award ceremony I missed last Friday!  That's one disappearing act I shouldn't have made.  Oh, well. There's always next semester.

In other news, I thoroughly enjoyed being in Florida with my family.  I even employed a few acting games I learned in Creative Process.  My family does a great job of keeping me humble.  For instance, one of my nieces called me "Uncle jetsky"instead of "Uncle Jesse". She is too cute.

Now, I'm back in Texas. It's really strange not having anything to do academically.  Some classmates are working on films, but others are just chilling.  I hope they're doing well. I'll touch base with them this weekend.

Presto

This past week has been a blast.  I loved listening to Jim Shields pearls of wisdom about essentials, social media, and the value of being friendly.
Later that night, I followed some other students back to campus and heard Scott Hollandsworth talk about the story behind the movie"Bernie".
Last, but certainly not least, this morning I'm being awarded a certificate for "Most Improved Student" in my class. I won't be there to receive it because I'm flying to a family reunion.  The irony is killling me.

D.P.A. Meeting

I went to my first Dallas Producers Association meeting last night, and it was great. http://www.dallasproducers.org.

I met a lot of wonderful people, and even some familiar faces from school.  We had a speaker named Terri Maxwell tell us about a "new world of work".  I took a few notes and even looked at some of the websites she mentioned for finding work.

The opportunity of meeting people and learning more about what the Blues Brothers call "the profession we have chosen" was definitely worth my time.  I can actually see myself succeeding, if I can just finish school, and get in the grapevine here locally.
